Meet The Team
Jon Deering is a Demolition Consultant, H&S Advisor and CDM Consultant with a diverse experience of working in the construction Industry on new build, demolition and asbestos removal projects. Jon graduated from Staffordshire University in 1995 as a quantity Surveyor and first gained on-site experience as a site agent for Dew Pitchmastic. He then moved to Pearce Construction and to Bagnall Group Limited, an asbestos removal and demolition contractor based in Warrington. Jon diversified his role and became an estimator, project manager and health and safety advisor. This involved the ownership of projects from tender stage through the construction phase up to completion. It was here that Jon gained much of his experience in hazard identification and risk management and worked in many technically demanding sectors such as nuclear and petrochemical industries.
In 2006 Jon left Bagnalls to pursue a career as a Demolition Consultant, Health and Safety Advisor and CDM Co-ordinator, setting up The Demolition Consultancy Limited. With the success of the business in new build projects Jon establish the trading name of Nationwide CDM to capture a wider portfolio of clients. Jon trades under both names depending on the sector and nature of work involved. Since April 2014 Jon has worked as a subconsultant CDM Advisor to RJD Associates (North West) Limited, with Damien Ratcliffe working for Nationwide CDM in the same capacity.
Damien Ratcliffe is an Architectural Technician and CDM/Construction Health & Safety Risk Management Consultant with a wide breadth of experience across a variety of sectors within the construction industry. Damien graduated form the University of Central Lancashire in 1994 and then spent five and a half years as an architectural technician at Frank Belshaw Building Surveyors Limited, where his duties included undertaking measured surveys of sites and buildings, identifying defects and remedial works required on refurbishment projects, preparing detailed drawings for planning and building regulation applications for industrial, commercial, residential and refurbishment projects and listed building and conservation works. Following the implementation of the CDM Regulations in 1995, Damien obtained a NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health and acted as the practice’s inhouse CDM Planning Supervisor.
Damien left the practice in 2000 to set up his own business, RJD Associates, which became a Limited Company in 2004. With RJD Associates Damien has provided architectural design services on a variety of industrial, commercial, residential and refurbishment projects. Following the implementation of CDM 2007 the business began specializing in CDM Coordination services, transitioning into a Construction Health & Safety Risk Management Consultancy, and working as CDM Coordinators on a wide range of construction projects. Since CDM 2015 came into force Damien has worked as Principal Designer, subconsultant Principal Designer and Client CDM Advisor as RJD Associates have continued to develop their portfolio of Clients. After meeting Jon through a mutual contact, and as fellow members of the Association for Project Safety, Damien has worked for Nationwide CDM as a subconsultant CDM Advisor since 2014, and he believes the development of Turnkey CDM Solutions in partnership with Jon presents an exciting opportunity moving forward.
Away from work Damien is an avid music fan and enjoys eating out and socialising. His hobbies include cycling, going to the gym and hiking, and he is a keen supporter of Burnley F.C., Lowerhouse Cricket Club and the Seattle Seahawks.
